Hydro-Excavation

Advantages Safety Applications Cost Savings

Hydro Excavation utilizes pressurized water to break up the ground into pieces.  The pieces are then

removed by air conveyance into a debris tank.

This method provides a non-destructive means to safely locate underground utilities and precisely

excavate.  It represents a "surgical" excavation process as compared to the traditional  mechancial means.

Potholing/Daylighting - Water pressure and a powerful vacuum system are used to safely expose underground utilities. The best way to prevent damaging buried cables and pipes before digging is to pothole the utility.

Utility Pole Holes - Right-of-ways are congested with buried utilities. Our Hydro Excavators can quickly excavate pole holes and base holes.  Iif a buried utility is exposed during the excavation the utility isn't damaged.

Utility Locating - A safe digging procedure used when locating underground utilities. Our powerful vacuum excavators will exhume the soils surrounding the buried utility verifying location, depth and type of utility.

Hydro Excavation/Hydrovac Excavation -These services save the utility industry thousands of dollars.  The use of water pressure and a powerful vacuum to safely expose underground utilities. This method prevents damages to utilities by back hoes, trenchers and other conventional digging equipment. The uncovered utility is clearly exposed leaving no question of location and depth.

Utility Excavation - Assists utility constructors with underground projects by exposing the existing buried infrastructures prior to the beginning of major excavation. All of the existing pipes and cables are exposed by using our safe Hydro Excavation procedures.

Backfill, Backfilling, Pneumatic Backfilling - A safe, clean and time saving way to backfill utility trenches and/or excavated areas that conventional construction equipment can't access. Pneumatic Backfilling is a process of blowing any aggregate, soil or mulch through a hose system directly to the excavated area.

Trenching - A safe alternative to conventional digging methods by using Hydro Excavators to dig trenches through easements and right-of-ways without damaging existing underground utilities. We use pressurized water to loosen the soil and a powerful vacuum loads the soil and water into a large debris tank.  After safely crossing each utility in the easement or right-of-way construction crews can proceed each buried pipe and cable has been located and identified.

Substation/Power Plant Excavations - Hydro Excavation that safely digs inside substations and power plants. Substation and power plant excavations are sensitive due to existing overhead and underground cables and pipes. Buried ground grids are also a concern. Hydro Excavation digs around the ground grid and buried utilities without damage. Additions and upgrades to substations and power plants can also be performed.  Ground Tech can also excavate the pier and foundation holes for the towers and transformer supports.   The equipment can dig in areas with low overhead space by extending hoses up to 300' from the truck.

Remote Excavations -Using water pressure and a powerful vacuum Ground Tech has excavation capabilities that back hoes don't have.  The equipment can be parked a distance from the work area and hoses extended 300 feet to the site.  Trenches can be dug in existing buildings for plumbing pipe relocations or repairs, bathroom remodels, basement drainage or waterproofing, crawlspace room additions, or in remote areas for culvert pipe cleaning.  Digging occurs in backyards without removing fences.  Holes can be dug for deck piers, in-ground pools, garden ponds, trench drains and much more.

Frozen Ground - A boiler system and circulation pump allows our Hydro Excavators to travel through cold weather conditions.  The boiler can heat the water up to 150 degrees for digging in frozen ground.

Air Vacuum Excavation - When specified, Ground Tech has the capability to provide an air vacuum excavation truck and crew. Although we prefer Hydro Excavation, certain municipalities , utility project managers and specifications require air vacuum excavation.

Concrete Pier Excavations - Ability to dig concrete pier holes for highway signs, traffic signal poles, sound walls, deck piers, building foundations, and many more applications.  Using water pressure and a powerful vacuum to excavate the holes for the signs and traffic poles is much safer and faster than using an auger. Our roadways and highways are filled with millions of miles of buried utilities and pipelines. An auger will damage any utility in its path and it piles the spoils outside of the hole.
